If you look to the Language tab on the left, sooner or later you'll see kanji.
That's right.
KANJI.
Fear not, for though they are numerous (not even Japanese people know all of them!), they are sometimes fairly easy and always interesting!
For example, let's look at 結.
Tangorin says this means. . .

Look at all those pronunciations!
(Note: the . between hiragana means that the character after the . will help you with the pronunciation, but it is not part of the pronunciation of the kanji. For example, ゆ.う refers to 結う、but the う is not the pronunciation of the actual kanji.)
Anyways, I thought of a little thing a couple days ago with the 結 kanji. It goes a little something like this:

Anyways, I thought of a little thing a couple days ago with the 結 kanji. It goes a little something like this:
ネクタイをよく結べない
羽生結弦は
結婚したがる。
Romaji:
Nekutai o yoku musubenai
Hanyū Yuzuru wa
Kekkon shitagaru.
Okay, finally, English translation!
Yuzuru Hanyu
Who can't tie a tie very well
Wants to get married someday.
(Yeah, I know, another post with Yuzuru Hanyu. But this is good practice with kanji!!)
Anyways, let's take another look at that Japanese thing again...
ネクタイをよく結べない
羽生結弦は
結婚したがる。
See the kanji?
In each line, the kanji has a different pronunciation. Granted, the usage in the second line is in a name, and normal pronunciations don't always come into play in names. Still, 結べない (negative form of 結ぶ) and 結婚 are two legitimate Japanese words that highlight the fundamental characteristics of kanji: pronunciation and meaning can change.
This is a very good thing to keep in mind! Plus, now we've learned more vocabulary!
ではでは!Until next time!
